Overview
Supplier and item groups help you organize records into categories, such as raw materials, finished goods, produce, and packaging. Grouping records can support reporting and help determine document requirements.
Suppliers and items are managed differently: a supplier can be assigned to a group, while each item belongs to one item group even when it is associated with multiple suppliers.
Assign a Group to a New Supplier
Step 1: Go to Supplier Management > Suppliers.
Step 2: Click New in the upper-right corner and select Supplier.
This opens a new supplier TraceStation.
Step 3: In the Group dropdown, select the appropriate group. To add a new group, select Manage Groups.
Change the Group for an Existing Supplier
Step 1: Go to Supplier Management > Suppliers.
Step 2: Find the supplier and select the edit icon in its row.
Step 3: Select the appropriate group from the Group dropdown. If you need to create a group, select Manage Groups.
Understand and Manage Item Groups
Each item belongs to one item group, even if it is associated with multiple suppliers. The item's group remains the same across all supplier relationships. Changing the group updates it for that item wherever it is associated.
Item groups also determine the document requirements associated with an item.
Change an Item's Group
Step 1: Go to Configuration > Items.
Step 2: Find and open the item you want to update.
Step 3: Select the desired group from the Group dropdown.
Add an Item Group Name
Step 1: Go to Configuration > Items and open an item.
Step 2: Select Manage Groups above the Group dropdown.
Step 3: In the pop-up, click Add to add a new group name.
Adding a group name makes it available in the group list but does not change the group assigned to any existing items.
