The Formula Management module is a part of our Networked Product Development (NPD) suite. Its tools allow you to develop and track the formulas and recipes you use to guide creation of your products, ensuring stable quality.
Why did we create this feature?
The physical elements of creating foods, beverages, and supplements come together in recipes, but there are many other areas of consideration alongside the physical manufacturing process. Ingredient procurement and management, research and development, item specification, handling new ingredient information, costing, are all part of the process. All these areas must share data. We designed Formula Management to integrate these previously separate systems.
How do you implement/use this feature?
Formula Management joins with several other modules to form the integrated Networked Product Development suite. The Networked Product Development (NPD) Suite is made up of these modules:
- Supplier Management
- Specification Management
- Formula Management
Formula Management Overview
Formula Management gives you true Rapid Prototyping, coordinating all these processes:
Creating new recipes | Sourcing suppliers |
Creating new ingredients | Using Network Data |
Versioning | Managing nested recipes |
Testing | Reporting |
It provides integration and reference between many types of data objects, giving you a Unified Product View:
Item specification & definitions | Product claims from ingredients to packaging |
Recipes and sub-recipes nested within them | Supporting documents |
Formulas | Cost tracking |
Nutrition | Histories of development |
Allergens |
Product Layout
Several workbooks are available to help with FM configuration, so if you weren't given these in your initial setup, ask your CSM.
Once set up, the system automatically monitors any change in your FM configurations via our detailed Audit Trail tool. This gives you a complete history at the formula, recipe, and item level.
Steps for Success
We recommend taking the following fives steps to ensure you are getting the most out of the Formula Management product. Documentation for each of these steps will be available shortly.
Step 1: Create your component ingredients and items.
Step 2: Determine your need for supporting documentation and link those docs to your items.
Step 3: Create your recipes.
Step 4: Develop your formulas using all that material.
Step 5: Start working in your new Unified Product View.
