Document Intelligence Overview

What Is TraceGains Document Intelligence?

TraceGains Document Intelligence (DI) is an AI-driven capability that extracts configured attribute data from supported supplier and item documents and converts it into structured values within system records.

Document Intelligence processes document content and maps extracted values to predefined attributes based on user-defined configuration. You remain in control of how data is verified, processed, and written to records.

Where It Currently Operates

Document Intelligence currently operates within Supplier Management and uses existing supplier and item document processes.

Before using Document Intelligence, ensure:

  • Supplier Management is enabled
  • Suppliers and items are set up
  • Supplier relationships are established

Document Intelligence functions as a configurable processing layer within Supplier Management to support automated document data extraction.

How It Works

Document Intelligence follows a structured document processing flow:

Configuration → Upload → Review → Resolve → Finalize

  • Configuration defines which attributes are extracted and how extraction results are handled for each document type
  • Upload initiates document processing using the configured document types
  • Review allows you to compare extracted values with document content
  • Resolve is where missing or incomplete extraction results are corrected and reprocessed as needed
  • Finalize completes processing by writing verified or successfully auto-processed results to their corresponding records

Configuration & Automation Overview

Document Intelligence is driven by configuration that you define before processing begins. Configuration determines what data is extracted, how extraction results are handled, and when verification or automated processing occurs.

It operates within these configured boundaries—extracting only the attributes you specify and processing results based on your settings. Automation increases efficiency while keeping verification and processing outcomes under your control.

When Document Intelligence Performs Best

Document Intelligence performs best when document content is clear and legible, even when document formats vary. When document quality or labeling is inconsistent, additional user review may be required.

Summary

Document Intelligence supports automated data extraction while keeping you in control of final results. In the next article, you’ll learn how configuration defines what data is extracted and how documents are processed.
