Assemblies

Overview

Assemblies allow you to organize packaging components that work together as part of a packaging configuration.

Assemblies are accessed from the Packaging tab:

Packaging → Assemblies

Assemblies can include existing packaging items and can also be reused within other Assemblies. This allows you to build reusable packaging configurations and maintain the underlying packaging information in one place.

How to Create an Assembly

Step 1: From the main navigation, select Packaging → Assemblies.

Step 2: Select New to begin creating an Assembly.

Step 3: Complete the information required to create the Assembly, then select Continue.

The fields and options available may depend on your site's configuration and the Assembly Template being used.

Build the Assembly

Once you create the Assembly, you can add packaging items and manage other information using the available tabs.

Composition (Items)

The Composition (Items) tab is where you can view and manage the packaging items that make up the Assembly.

The Items and Alternates options allow you to manage the packaging items included in the Assembly and alternate items when applicable.

From Items, select + Add to add components to the packaging configuration.

The available options include:

  • Item — Add an existing packaging item.
  • Level — Add a level to the packaging configuration when applicable.
  • Assembly — Add an existing Assembly.

Reuse an Existing Assembly

You can use an existing Assembly within another Assembly.

To reuse an Assembly:

Step 1: From Composition (Items), select + Add.

Step 2: Select Assembly.

Step 3: Select one or more assemblies you want to add.

Step 4: Once you assign them, click Done.

Using one or more existing Assemblies allows you to reuse their underlying packaging configurations instead of adding each packaging item individually.

Maintain Reusable Packaging Items

Assemblies can also help simplify ongoing packaging maintenance.

When an Assembly uses an existing packaging item, the packaging item's specification remains the source for that item's information. If the packaging item is updated, the updated information can be reflected wherever that item is used within Assemblies.

For example, if the specification for a cap lid changes, you can update the cap lid's specification rather than manually updating every Assembly that uses the cap lid.

This illustrates how reusable packaging items can reduce the need to maintain the same information in multiple places.

Labeling

Use Labeling to manage labeling-related information for the Assembly.

Depending on your configuration, this can include information related to:

  • Allergens
  • Claims
  • Restricted Substances

Manufacturing

Use Manufacturing to manage information related to how the Assembly is produced.

Depending on your configuration, this can include information related to:

  • Process Steps
  • BOM
  • Cost

Save the Assembly

Complete the applicable sections and review the packaging configuration.

When you're finished making changes, select Save.

Reuse Assemblies Across Products

Once an Assembly is created, you can reuse it wherever the same packaging configuration is needed.

For example, if multiple products use the same bottle-and-cap configuration, you can associate the existing Assembly rather than adding the bottle and cap individually to each configuration.

This allows you to maintain the reusable packaging configuration in one place.
